About the Mentorship Program
The Leadership Academy includes a mentoring component to cultivate
a sense of professionalism within the Leadership Academy Scholars. The
program assists in the development of the "whole" scholar by providing
both guidance and advice from a professional in their current field
of interest.
The benefits of participating and committing to a mentoring partnership
are innumerable. Both sides of the mentoring equation can expect to
experience personal and professional growth, increased self-awareness
and exposure to new perspectives during the course of the mentoring
partnership.

IIT Leadership Academy Mentor - Job Description
The purposes of becoming a mentor for a Leadership Academy Scholar
are: to provide an opportunity to learn from a professional in their
field or a related field of interest, to promote the development of
the scholar's professional ethics and standards, to enhance the scholar's
self-confidence and maturity.
In order to achieve the aforementioned purposes the Mentor must perform
the following tasks:
- Complete Mentor Profile sheet to enable the Leadership Academy
to create an adequate match between Mentors and Scholars (Mentees)
- Meet regularly with Mentee (e.g. once a month)
- Make time to communicate with Mentee via phone and/or e-mail
to supplement face-to-face meetings
- Assist Mentee in completing the Developmental Summary and Mentoring
Contract (found in forms section of Mentorship Program Handbook)
- Complete Mentee Evaluation Form at end of each academic year
- Offer relevant expertise and advice
- Provide an objective and discerning point of view with regards
to the Mentee's academic and career goals
- Instruct, when necessary, on appropriate topics for the benefit
of the Mentee (e.g. professional behavior, resume writing, interview
skills, etc.)
- Attend Leadership Academy sponsored mentoring events, should they
become part of our program
The duration of the formal mentoring partnership is expected to last
until the Scholar graduates. The contact logs, evaluation forms and
open communication between the Mentor, Mentee and the Leadership Academy
Director will indicate if and when a new partnership needs to be mandated.
